Fresh Flowers

Flowers have always been my favorite subjects to paint. Their ephemeral beauty is endlessly inspiring and challenging. In this series, I will explore a painting technique called alla prima—the application of thick brush strokes coming together to depict the feeling of fresh flowers. Alla prima is a direct painting approach where paint is applied wet-on-wet without letting earlier layers dry. In Italian, the term alla prima means "at first attempt." Paintings created in this manner are usually completed within one painting session.
